Satisfying a maximum number of pre-routed requests in all-optical rings

چکیده
We address the problem of maximizing the number of satisfied requests in all-optical networks that use wavelength division multiplexing. We consider the case where requests are pre-routed and formulate it as the maximum path coloring problem. We study the problem for rings and present a (2/3)-approximation algorithm. Along the way we develop a fast matching technique for a special class of bipartite graphs. By using this technique we achieve an Oðnþ m log LÞ time complexity for our approximation algorithm, where n is the number of nodes, m is the number of requests and L is the maximum load of requests on a single link. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Wavelength Assignment for Satisfying Maximal Number of Requests in All-Optical Networks
In this paper, we study how to, given a set of pre-routed requests in an all-optical network and a set of wavelengths available on each link, assign a subset of requests with maximal size such that no wavelength constraint on links is violated. While all previous studies on the wavelength assignment problem with the same objective assume the same set of wavelengths available on all links, our w...
متن کاملMaximum Request Satisfaction in WDM Rings: Algorithms and Experiments
We study the problem of satisfying a maximum number of communication requests in alloptical WDM rings in which the number of available wavelengths per fiber is limited. We investigate two variations of the problem: with or without prior routing of requests. We consider a number of new and existing algorithmic approaches for these two variations. We perform an experimental comparison of the resu...
متن کاملAdvanced Collective Communication in WDM Optical Rings
In this paper we give approximation algorithms for computing routing schemes and wavelength assignments (coloring) for some highly structured sets of communication requests on all optical undirected rings. In our setting, the nodes of the ring are divided into two disjoint classes. In the Internal-All-to-All problem each node sends a message to all the other nodes of the class it belongs. In th...
متن کاملMaximum Profit Wavelength Assignment in WDM Rings
Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) is a dominating technology in contemporary all-optical networking. It allows several connections to be established through the same fiber links, provided that each of the connections uses a different wavelength. A second requirement is that a connection must use the same wavelength from one end to the other in order to avoid the use of wavelength converter...
متن کاملOn Protecting Link Failure of Wavelength Routed Mesh Network
The Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) is the most cost-effective way to upgrade the optical links to the wavelength-routed optical network, while each link can carry a certain number of wavelengths. The mesh is recognized as the topology to serve the optical networks since it has higher reliability and requires lower spare bandwidth. To decide whether a wavelength-routed mesh networ...
